Built from the trip, not from a file

Every travel-route animator works the same way: find a GPS track, export it as GPX or KML, open a web tool, upload it, configure a video. It is a project.

In Stadu the trip is already there, because you logged it — a list of stops with a transport mode between each one. Press replay and the route draws itself: the app snaps each leg to real roads, rails and flight paths and animates along it.

Nothing to export. Nothing to upload. No file format to learn.

The right vehicle for each leg

A trip is rarely one mode of transport, and the replay respects that. Each leg carries its own vehicle as a 3D model moving along the path, oriented to the direction of travel:

• Car for drives, following the actual road geometry.
• Train along the rail route.
• Plane for flights, climbing away from the ground on the long hops.
• Ferry for sea crossings — with an editable route, because there is no directions service for open water and the default line rarely matches the crossing you took.

The camera chases the vehicle, the trail grows behind it, and each leg is coloured by its mode.

Routes you can correct

Automatic routing is right most of the time and badly wrong occasionally — especially on water. Stadu lets you edit the route by hand where it matters, so the replay shows the crossing you actually made rather than the one an API guessed at.

Made to be recorded

To be precise about what this is: the replay is a full-screen animated playback inside the app. Stadu does not render or export a video file.

What it does do is get out of the way — tap once and every control fades out, so a screen recording comes out clean, with nothing but the map, the route and the vehicle. That is how you get a clip to send to the people you travelled with.

If what you need is a finished, watermark-free 1080p video file to publish, a dedicated web tool is the better instrument. We wrote an honest comparison rather than pretending otherwise.
